But in a good way. The site Women Riders Now have a “Ride Right” series that is awesome. This week they added an article on loading your motorcycle for long hauls:

Baby Is Home!
After the wreck just after memorial day, I and my bike were under repairs and healing respectively.
It took some time, waiting for parts, discovering the additional things that were wrong as the mechanics went deeper into the bike during restoration, etc. but in the end…she was done and ready to come home.
Unfortunately I was in the middle of business travel when it was ready but we took care of it an she arrived this afternoon.
Both Lynn and I are excited.
I will say I was apprehensive throwing a leg over, but I and the bike were back like nothing happend and sitting on the bike was simply wonderful.
Gonna Have Baby Home By Wednesday!
I tried to reschedule my return home so I could be here in time to have the bike delivered Saturday, but alas…the cards were NOT in my favor.
I did end up getting a full first class upgrade out of the effort as well as arriving home on Valentines to spend with my girlfriend, so I don’t look at it as a complete waste of effort.
Now I have to work on making sure there will be room….for the car when the bike gets home from the shop. Like I tell everyone…I have a $10,000 car and a $30,000 motorcycle you figure out which is more important!

Friday the 13th is traditionally a day known for fright and bad luck.
However, Friday, February 13th 2009 could be a departure from that point of view, especially if you are in the market for a new motorcycle.
Congress passed a massive spending bill (HR-1) the largest ever passed by any US Congress February 13, 2009. The bill is supposed to revive an ailing economy and put out of work Americans back into a job.
There is one tucked away provision that should appeal to motorcyclists, a tax break for purchase of a new –not used- motorcycle.
Here is the breakdown:
- From now until the end of 2009 any one will be able to deduct all state and local taxes from the purchase of a new motorcycle so long as the purchaser makes less than $125,000 a year as a single tax filer or $250,000 for those filing jointly.
- The deduction applies to new motorcycles with a purchase price of up to $49,500 and a gross vehicle curb weight of less than 8,500 lbs.
- This is what is known as an “above the line deduction” which means all taxpayers are eligible whether the purchaser itemizes other deductions or not.
This deduction also applies to passenger cars, light trucks and recreational vehicles so long as they meet the same qualifiers.
So what are you waiting for? Go do your part to jump start the economy and buy a new bike.
The bill has passed the US Congress and now heads to the President for his signature before becoming law. The MRF is not taking an official position on HR 1.

Please Get A Checkup If You Haven’t Had One
Recieved this from a friend and wanted to pass it along to everyone. As bikers we tend to be tough people…and rightfully so. However, we also should remember that we’re still human and like our machines…we need to have checkups every now and then.
So as he says…please take care of yourselves, I know I’d like to see you on the road again.
To all my Friends, Family and Associates
Last week wasn’t very good one for me – I checked myself into the hospital at 9:00 am Tuesday morning with chest pains. I was taken to the cardiac unit at Regional Hospital the next day and spent 6 hrs in the Cath Lab and 2 days later another 2hrs to finish. I was fortunate that I did not suffer any damage to my heart , but did leave with 5 stints. My prognosis is a good one and hopefully will be back at beating on all eight in a couple of weeks or so.
My reason for writing this little letter is to let my friends know what happened and thank all of you that has showed so much concern. It is truly a wonderful thing to have so much support in my life.
To all my friends that have not been to the doc for check up –Go – it can save your life —if you are feeling tired or have shortness of breath there is a good chance something is sneaking up on you. All you need is an EKG, a blood test, and a stress test and all things will become clear.
Thanks again to all that have called and been there with me you cannot imagine what a comfort it has been.
Love You All
Glad To See People Riding Here In California
So tonight was a nice night in San Diego. When I arrived for my training, the weather was not what I expected (see a video at http://www.leray.us/nukem/2009/02/10/i-thought-it-never-rains-in-california/622) so I was very happy to see bikes out tonight.
I know if I had a bike here, I’d be in the wind.
Maybe because it’s been a long time since I have been able to ride, but just seeing people enjoying their motorcycles was enough to lift my spirits.
Hopefully as the weather clears up I’ll see more riders.
