Spreading The Word That I’m Black….
There have been lots of talk about how our Govenor, now the Republican candidate for VP, has not seen blacks or my personal favorite…there are NO Black people in Alaska.
Read my post on my other blog: http://www.leray.us/nukem/2008/09/03/hey-idiotsthere-are-blacks-in-alaska/335
We are here, many of us are even bikers (check out www.dawgsofthenorth.com)!
By the by…Sarah Palin supports Bikers. We have always supported her and she knows us and has ridden with us.
So…what’s Obama’s actual stance on Motorcycle rights? In this time of increased motorcycle and scooter sales will he provide change or be more of the same on Motorcycle rights.
I know how Sarah Palin feels about motorcycle rights, I know what McCain said in Sturgis to bikers.
When I go searching I find site like Bikers 4 Obama which is nothing more than an Obamamania site and has absolutely NOTHING to do with bikers or motorcycle issues.
So if you know his stance….help a Brotha out!

As far as bikers rights Obama doesn’t have Sturgis or a picture next to a Harley like McCain and Palin, respectively, but he does have this:

http://legacy.usw.org/usw/program/adminlinks/docs/barack_obama_harley.mp3
Obama’s tax breaks for companies that hire and build in the US is one of his better policy positions:

Obama’s detractors like to paint him as fluff, but his policy positions are pretty damn detailed and they actually follow some of the more core aspects of American biking, even though he didn’t go to Sturgis.
Personally I don’t think he rides, so going to Sturgis would have been kinda silly and pandering unless he did it in a non-political context which is not possible at this time, but Obama does love and respect America and the American Dream. He’ll do a lot more to restore both than his opponent and I think things will be good for bikers along the way as they will for most everyone else.
Thanks for the comment, but your comment almost proves the point of my article. Based upon the response I have to ask if you ride at all?
I would still like to know his position regarding motorcycle related legislation and programs. I can care less about which candidate supports Harley-Davidson as I already have my motorcycles.
I am concerned about his position on things like HR 6809 - Energy for Schools Act(which includes a provision allowing insurance companies to be able to put limitations on payment WITHOUT NOTIFYING INSURERS) that passed the House and is in the Senate. Does he support HR 1076 (the fix for the loophole on law allowing insurance companies to deny coverage based upon the type of injury)? What’s his feeling on NHTSA and it’s continued anti-motorcycle policies?
These are the things I am speaking to.
I can tell you that in speaking to Gov. Palin (and yes we had her ear during the Motorcycle Awareness and Memorial Day ceremonies) she supports the rights of motorcyclists.
The Motorcycle Rights Foundation (MRF) has a dialog with the Republican National Committee while having no contact with the Democratic National Committee (and they have tried): http://www.mrf.org/reports/2008/08LR17.htm.
Right now, motorcyclists are not seen as a large enough forum, but with the continuing energy and credit crisis, motorcycles sales are going up and it is prudent for ALL candidates to recognize this growing group.
uh.. yes I ride. Us Obama supporters would have to be getting really desperate if we were trolling Motorcycle Forums just to post about Obama and they didn’t even ride.
Now as far as what I ride, I got a Yamaha V Star 650 Classic. I love it but its not enough bike for traveling and I want to move up to something more substantial and preferably made in the US. Regardless its a great entry-level bike and has served me well as my first bike.
So I guess in some ways that makes me not hardcore or possibly not a real biker, but wtfever to all that. Its fun and I love doing it.
Now back to Obama, while I can understand the point you are making, but I think you miss some of my point in that Obama has a much stronger stance on improving domestic production of Motorcycles, cars and other items, which in turn is a very good benefit to motorcyclist, at-least those who want American-bikes or even the foreign bikes that ape them.
He has taken a very strong and consistent stance on rebuilding America’s crumbling highways and infrastructure which should be a boon to any motorcyclist.
However, Obama has not focused on the variety of motorcycle-related issues explcitly, assuming that one is ignoring domestic manufacturing, building jobs for the middle class and improving roadways.
As far as your pro insurance loop hole law, it would be a safe assumption that Obama would be for closing that loophole as his health plan explicitly stands against denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions.

I do hope that Obama specifically speaks to motorcyclists in the future beyond just the Harley ad and his existing positions on macro issues of which many aspects of motorcycling in America are a a mircocosm of.
Regardless the DNC should be returning the outreach of the MSF. As a registered Democrat, I’ll send both the DNC and the Obama campaign a letter as well urging that.
Sorry, but I do believe that there are trolls for both campaigns (hell I was asked to be one since I have multiple blogs — and you might be surprised who asked).
Also as I state all over my site, what you ride does not matter to me (only that you ride).
On getting the DNC to contact the MSF, best of luck. MSF is located in D.C. and has it’s own lobbyists, however, if you can get them to do something that would be awesome.
I also do not assume things with politicians, especially those running for high office (if history is any indicator)…however that discussion is for my other blog.
However the number of motorcyclists are increasing (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/jun/15/safety-takes-back-seat-as-price-of-gas-drives-moto/) and with gas prices being what they are, I see legislation being brought forth because of the increased accidents rather than education and awareness (http://www.hogbiker.com/2007/11/14/rising-gas-prices-will-it-affect-your-freedom-to-ride/101) and that is my concern.
Yes, there are economic, tax, and security issues…I understand that.
However motorcyclists are growing in number and our issues are mounting. MSF, AMA and our local MROs work hard to ensure our rights as motorcyclist are protected.
And that will be a consideration for me when I close the curtain.
