Throttle Thunder: Forget-Me-Not-Mission

Came across this ride today. It’s a two-day relay - May 19th and 20th - from Fairbanks to Soldotna to raise money for MADD, Alaska Law Enforcement, scholarships and aid for victims and families of drunk drivers here in Alaska.

The couple (Royal & Nancy Bidwell) sound like some very nice people and their story of tragedy makes for a completing reason to join them in this effort to raise funds and awareness.

Everything about this is something all motorcycle riders should want to take part in as Motorcyclists are more likely to sustain a fatal injury from a drunk driver than any other type of victim.

You can help out today by joining and rolling on the throttle for a good cause!

Did I mention the Blessing web site?

While I’m not running the parking crew I did volunteer to build a website dedicated to the Gathering at - http://alaskanbiker.com/blessing.

It’s a “quick & dirty” but it’s a good way to get out the information to everyone.

Changing my involvement in the Bike Blessing

This year I won’t be in any leadership role for the Bike Blessing. I have always enjoyed being a big part of the Gathering (Bike Blessing @Anchorage City Church) - it’s has always been hard, but worthwhile work. My vision has always been that at some point the church would be totally in charge of this event with people like myself being there in a volunteer, rather than management capacity.

This year, my prayers have been answered.

The last meeting had Church members taking on the role of managing parking (my job) and photography (Minx’s job) to the point that we are confident we can step away.

This will allow me to actually take part in the event (Minx and I are usually so tired after working the ACC we just go home and take a nap rather that ride to the Park Strip) as well as do something I’ve never been able to do at ANY event - see Arctic Attack perform!

Be Biker Friendly

My buddy Chuck sent me a link to Biker Friendly, a great website dedicated to motorcycle awareness. This site is simple and they even have stickers they will send to you that you can put on your cage. While the message is the same as ABATE (Watch Out For Motorcycles), I like their stickers better (Biker Friendly). The term “Biker Friendly” just seems to be a more powerful message, because it will speak to both the Driver and the Rider (as many Riders forget that we should also be courteous as well when we’re on the road).

I think I will go to ABATE and see if I can get some $$$ donated to these guys to help spread their message.

Who knows? Maybe I can get ABATE to buy a shitload of their stickers to give out for Motorcycle Awareness month next year (I know they have already got their MA stuff setup for this year).

In the meantime, visit the Biker Friendly website and if you like their message - DONATE!!!!

Thanks Snowhog!

I have to give a special thanks to my Bro Snowhog for catching that the site was down this weekend while I was at the AMCDA Bike Show.

I had added a plugin that allowed me to grab video from various sources (Google, Youtube, etc.) and it tanked the site….

HARD

Luckily all I needed to do was to remove the plugin and remove the data from the database.

It’s good to have people (guess I have People too, H&R Block) checking the site.
