It’s amazing who you meet wearing a HD shirt

Attended one of our client’s Christmas party (excellent party, but then again they’re an excellent client also) and I even dressed up for the occasion (dress Harley Davidson shirt and CLEAN black jeans).

Sure enough I have a couple approach me because of the shirt…assuming that I’ve got a bike wearing Harley gear. Nice couple, ride themselves…yadda, yadda.

As we chatted it came up that with the Harley Davidson crowd, if you own a Harley you tend to attract fellow owners and treat each other like one big family.

I’ve been thinking about it all weekend that I have to admit that it’s true more so than other brand’s groups I’ve ridden with. The BMWers (pronounced ‘beemers‘) would be the close second and STAR would be a lagging third.

I know there is no real brand loyalty amongst sport bikers…they just all cobble together and blast off at WARP 9 !

Not sure why specifically….

Maybe the Milwaukee Machine is just that good at marketing (seems so), but I’d like to think it’s because only Harley and Indian have that “dreamer following.”

By “dreamer following” I have never in over 25 years of riding heard anyone say “I’ve always dreamed of riding a Honda Goldwing since I was a little kid”. I’ve heard it for Harley’s and Indians (I know I’ve always wanted to ride a real Super Chief since I was about 18) for sure though.

Maybe someday the mystique will be there for a Road Star or a Valkyrie – who’s to say what the future holds?
